Vivek Ramaswamy’s nonprofit is barely known, but it makes big claims

Vivek Ramaswamy, the Ohio billionaire and Republican gubernatorial candidate, has quietly launched a nonprofit organization that aims to combat what it calls government and media misinformation. But despite Ramaswamy's high profile from his 2024 presidential run and endorsements from President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, the group — called Stand For TRUTH — has attracted remarkably little public attention.

Incorporated in Ohio on March 29, 2024, Stand For TRUTH is registered as a tax-exempt nonprofit with the IRS. According to state filings, its stated purpose is to educate the public about misinformation spread by journalists and government officials. The nonprofit lists more than a dozen specific examples, alleging that the government and media outlets are lying about the origin of COVID-19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the war in Ukraine, the 2017 Charlottesville rally, and the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

“We the people deserve a government and media that looks you in the eye and tells you that they lied to you,” Ramaswamy said in a video on Stand For TRUTH’s website. Ramaswamy, 39, has built his political brand around challenging establishment narratives, often promoting controversial claims that mainstream fact-checkers have debunked. His 2024 presidential campaign embraced a platform of national renewal, cultural patriotism, and critiques of corporate media.

The Nonprofit's Structure and Leadership

Stand For TRUTH operates from a registered office at Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio, with additional offices in Virginia. According to Virginia business accounts filed in January 2025, the nonprofit has four leading employees, all of whom are close allies of Ramaswamy:

  • Director and Secretary Steve Roberts, who has previously represented Ramaswamy and recently joined a new conservative law firm founded by the treasurer and lawyer for Elon Musk’s PAC.
  • Director and President John Epitropolous, a former Ohio State linebacker and the secretary of Ramaswamy’s 2024 presidential campaign. His wife served as the campaign’s secretary as well.
  • Director Ben Yoho, who worked on Ramaswamy’s presidential campaign and also on Donald Trump’s 2016 victory.
  • Treasurer Janna Rutland, who has been treasurer for multiple PACs and also served as treasurer for Ramaswamy’s presidential campaign.

The close overlap between the nonprofit’s leadership and Ramaswamy’s political operation has raised questions about whether Stand For TRUTH is primarily a vehicle to advance his gubernatorial ambitions or a genuine independent educational effort. Ramaswamy did not respond to questions about whether the organization’s policies align with his campaign platform.

Minimal Online Presence

Despite Ramaswamy’s fame and the serious nature of the claims it makes, Stand For TRUTH has garnered extremely limited online engagement. As of mid-2025, the group had only 22 followers on Facebook and Instagram combined. On X (formerly Twitter), it has around 950 followers, but that number was under 60 before affiliate accounts began promoting it. Its YouTube channel has 40 subscribers and just nine videos, each a several-minute-long cartoon covering topics such as student debt, immigration, and cultural patriotism.

The low follower counts stand in stark contrast to Ramaswamy’s own social media presence, where he boasts millions of followers across platforms. According to LinkedIn posts from former interns, most of the content for Stand For TRUTH was generated by college students working for the nonprofit in Columbus during the summer of 2024. This suggests a grassroots operation that has yet to gain traction.

Content and Claims

The nonprofit’s videos present polished animations that echo Ramaswamy’s rhetoric. One video, titled “What Is An American?”, includes clips of Ramaswamy speaking about a loss of cultural patriotism and a need to return to Christian values, even though Ramaswamy himself is Hindu. The video argues that the American identity is rooted in a shared commitment to liberty and faith, a theme Ramaswamy has emphasized in his speeches.

Other videos tackle student debt forgiveness, immigration policy, and the alleged dangers of “woke” education. The overarching narrative is that mainstream institutions — including the media, academia, and government agencies — are systematically misleading the public. Stand For TRUTH’s website encourages supporters to donate to the cause, but its tax forms are not publicly available. According to the IRS, this typically indicates that the organization has either gross receipts of under $50,000 or is experiencing delays in virtual filing.

The specific claims about COVID-19 origin, Ukraine, Charlottesville, and January 6 align closely with positions taken by Ramaswamy during his presidential campaign. He has repeatedly questioned the official narrative on the COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting that the virus may have been engineered in a lab. He has argued that the U.S. should not be funding Ukraine’s war against Russia, and he described the 2017 Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally as having been exaggerated by the media. Regarding January 6, he has characterized the Capitol breach as a protest that was over-policed, a view shared by many in the Trump-aligned wing of the Republican Party.

Ramaswamy’s Gubernatorial Platform

While Ramaswamy’s nonprofit focuses on media and government accountability, his official campaign for Ohio governor centers on economic issues. In a 1-on-1 interview with NBC4, Ramaswamy outlined priorities such as reducing property and income taxes, cutting regulations, and reforming welfare and Medicaid work requirements. “Bring down the property tax burden, bring down the income tax burden, eventually down to zero in this state,” he said. “End the war on work, and this affects the budget to work requirements for Medicaid and welfare in the state, cut every piece of regulation that’s getting in the way of economic growth.”

Neither economic development nor tax reform is mentioned on Stand For TRUTH’s website, raising further questions about the nonprofit’s connection to his campaign. Ramaswamy’s run for governor has received endorsements from President Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, both of whom are influential in conservative circles. In the Republican primary, he will face Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Morgan County business owner Heather Hill. The only Democrat to enter the race so far is former state health director Amy Acton. The general election for Ohio’s next governor will be held on November 3, 2026.

Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur who made his fortune through the pharmaceutical company Roivant Sciences, first entered national politics with a long-shot presidential campaign in 2024. Despite limited resources compared to better-known rivals, his aggressive debate performances and provocative statements earned him a passionate following among some conservative voters. After ending his presidential bid, he quickly pivoted to the Ohio governor’s race, leveraging his national profile to build a formidable campaign infrastructure.

The launch of Stand For TRUTH appears to be part of a broader strategy to influence public opinion on key cultural and political issues, even as his electoral ambitions remain front and center. Whether the nonprofit will gain more traction remains to be seen, but for now, it functions largely as a low-profile extension of Ramaswamy’s brand, making big claims with little public visibility.
